The Secret Place

Our secret life with God is meant to be the most important element of our spiritual life. Yes, we can attend church and go to conferences and worship as a group but the real place of where we get what will sustain us and and transform us is in that one-on-one, face to face encounter with our Creator, Redeemer and Intimate Friend. He is an eternal mirror that reflects all that is essential and good about us as well as showing up the darkness that resides there. As we increasingly approach His Light we will fluctuate between great joy at the proximity to Him and great anguish for the parts of ourselves that are out of alignment with Him.
It can be our piece of heaven on earth if we look to Him to be more important to us than image or comfort or other relationships. I have found that pressing into the secret place has caused disruption in my life: cherished beliefs about myself and others have had to go, unhealthy relationships have been targeted; sometimes I have felt totally undone and powerless. But in that portal to life that comes after death, there has been an ongoing and gradual reforming and restoring of the essential me so that I can be happy with what I really have which is ongoing access to a Supreme Being who somehow loves me and wants to be with me.
